TCR Ibérico: 2017-2021

One of many national touring car championships to utilise the TCR regulations debuted by the TCR International Series in 2015, TCR Ibérico was launched in 2017. These regulations provide a relatively accessible means of racing full-on customer tin-tops, with models available from a wide range of manufacturers.

Largely picking up where TCR Portugal left off, TCR Ibérico became the local championship for Portuguese teams and drivers to race TCR machinery. Expanding to include Spanish circuits seemed like a logical choice given the limited interest the previous championship received, but it didn’t appear to make much difference in terms of numbers.

Sharing grids with TCR Europe on occassion also didn’t have much of an impact, other than significantly boosting the field for one round per year. Over its five year run TCR Ibérico experienced a fairly similar level of success as its predecessor, before it was replaced itself by the Iberian Supercars championship’s TCR class.
