TCR Portugal: 2015-2018

One of many national touring car championships to utilise the TCR regulations debuted by the TCR International Series in 2015, TCR Portugal also launched in 2015. These regulations provide a relatively accessible means of racing full-on customer tin-tops, with models available from a wide range of manufacturers.

An early adopter of the TCR regulations, TCR Portugal became one of the first national TCR championships upon its launch in 2015. Describing its first season as a championship is perhaps giving it a bit too much credit, admittedly; only one driver contested any of the events.

Over the next three years however the championship had a fairly consistent, albeit small, field of entries. These lean fields are fairly common in smaller national championships, but TCR Portugal did at least have the unique sight of the Kia Cee’d TCR as a frequent competitor.

After 2018 the series was effectively replaced by the recently launched TCR Ibérico championship, bringing its short run to an end.
