TCR CER: 2016-2021

The Campeonato de España de Resistencia - or Spanish Endurance Championship - is, as you’d expect, Spain’s top endurance racing series. While there have been a variety of different classes included in the championship, for the purpose of this site the focus is solely on the TCR class that ran as part of the series.

Known as the Trofeo de España TCR within the series, and TCR CER outside of it, this was the first official TCR class to be contested in Spain; a good few years ahead of TCR Spain’s debut. Due to the endurance format the series often featured two drivers sharing a car, though some drivers chose to compete solo.

After debuting in 2016 the Trofeo de España TCR was scheduled to become a class within TCR Ibérico for 2017, along with TCR Portugal. However due to very low entry numbers, the Spanish class was dropped and the title wasn’t contested that year. The trophy returned in 2018, once again as part of the Campeonato de España de Resistencia.

The class proved to be popular, with good entry numbers each year through to the 2020 season. However, this quite suddenly stopped in 2021. With TCR Spain launching as part of the Campeonato de España de Turismos, there were now two separate TCR championships running in Spain at the same time.

This led to a drastic drop in entry numbers for TCR CER, with the class ultimately losing its official TCR status at the end of the season. For 2022 onward TCR Spain became the sole recognised TCR title in the country, though some TCR cars do still compete within the other classes of the Campeonato de España de Resistencia.
