Launched in 2019 and merged with TCR UK that same season, the Touring Car Trophy was a short-lived championship for various specifications of touring car, including TCR, NGTC and S2000 cars. With plenty of recently retired BTCC cars in the hands of private owners around the UK, the Touring Car Trophy was pitched as a new home for these cars.

It initially seemed like there was some interest in the concept, but unfortunately it quite quickly faded. Entry numbers were never especially strong, and by 2021 the championship almost entirely consisted of TCR entries. This led the organisers to scrap the Touring Car Trophy and shift their focus entirely to TCR UK: this proved to be a wise decision, with very good entry numbers for TCR UK in 2022.
