TCR South America: 2021-Present
Multiple regional touring car championships have also utilised the TCR regulations debuted by the TCR International Series in 2015, including TCR South America. These regulations provide a relatively accessible means of racing full-on customer tin-tops, with models available from a wide range of manufacturers.
A fairly late addition to the TCR family, TCR South America has quickly established itself as one of the best championships held under the regulations. South America has a rich history with touring car racing, so it was a little surprising that it took as long as it did for a TCR series to be created for the continent.
Announced in 2020 ahead of its inaugural season the following year, the championship features rounds in Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. There are a mixture of traditional sprint races and longer endurance events throughout the season, with entrants sharing their cars with a second driver for the endurance races.
So far the championship has proven to be a hit, with increasingly impressive grid sizes filled with talented drivers both from South America and further afield. A good variety of manufacturers have been represented too, with the Toyota Corolla TCR primarily being developed for and making its race debut in the series.
