TCR Malaysia: 2019-2020

One of many national touring car championships to utilise the TCR regulations debuted by the TCR International Series in 2015, TCR Malaysia was launched in 2019. These regulations provide a relatively accessible means of racing full-on customer tin-tops, with models available from a wide range of manufacturers.

TCR Malaysia was a short winter-season championship created by the promoters of TCR Asia. Intended as a sort of preparation event for teams and drivers ahead of their full-season commitments, every round of the series was held at the Sepang International Circuit.

Luca Engstler won the title in both seasons, having dominated the 2019 season and finishing level on points with Dan Lloyd in 2020. Given its role as essentially just a warm-up championship, TCR Malaysia was always likely to have quite a short run. Following the 2020 season, the championship was quietly discontinued.
