Despite its name, the Sports Car Championship Canada was Canada’s top touring car series. The series effectively replaced the Canadian Touring Car Championship for the 2021 season, and in its first two seasons featured two classes of cars. A GT4 class, which generally only had a few entries, and a reasonably sized TCR class. For the purposes of this site the GT4 class is ignored, as it isn’t a touring car category.
Unlike some smaller national championships where one driver ends up dominating, SCCC provided fairly open seasons with a good variety of drivers scoring race wins and podiums. In its inaugural season the championship also enjoyed the unique sight of all three Hyundai TCR models represented on the grid at the same time; with one i30 N, one Veloster and one Elantra contesting the 2021 season. All three were once again represented in 2022, with SCCC one of very few championships where this has occurred.
2023 featured the addition of a third class to the series, using TCA-spec touring cars as seen in TC America. This was intended to provide a more accessible and affordable entry point to the series for newcomers, while also allowing these drivers to contest a high-profile national event.
In Spring 2025 it was announced the championship would be cancelled for that year due to low entry numbers. This was blamed on the volatile political and trade climate between the US and Canada, though it’s worth acknowledging the series hadn’t exactly enjoyed large grids even before this. No comment was made on the future of the series, but as of early 2026 it appears the championship has been fully shelved.
